Comfy clothes, comfy yoga
What to Look For in Yoga Clothing
Before practicing wellness, it is essential to allow yourself to feel well. At Yoga Pod, yoga is for everybody and every body, hence we embrace everyone to feel comfortable in their skin. This, however, can be difficult when we are fiddling with saggy, too-tight or uncomfortable yoga clothes.
That’s why it is important to go for clothes that are suitable for you and your yoga practice. So, amid the realm of fine clothing, what’s there to find for a comfortable yoga session?
Your yoga clothing purchase will depend largely on your preference, and it is what should be embraced! However, some components should be taken into consideration as you decide to place in your cart in the mall or click that “Add to cart” button:
Style of yoga practice: Yoga is diverse in form and practice in its offer, some hold specific characteristics - which are best experienced when we wear the right clothes that support its form of practice. So besides this post, we highly recommend you take advice from your instructor.
Check-in with your body: Listen to the way your body communicates with you. The purpose of yoga is to harmonize and balance your relationship with your body and emotion. Find clothes that make your body - and ultimately, you - feel comfy.
Comfy criteria when practicing Yoga
And that comfy feeling, we believe, can be sought for in three criteria as below:
Comfort
There’s nothing worse than practising yoga in an uncomfortable piece of clothing. As you tune into your body, the last thing you would want is to have your thoughts wandering on the itchy seams and tags, and struggle to move correctly with saggy or too-tight waistbands, or fabric that binds and chafes.
Breathability
When practising yoga, our bodies breathe with movements, which results in sweating - either a little or a lot depending on the type of practice. In both cases, it’s important to wear breathable and moisture-wicking materials to keep you cool and comfortable.
Tank tops, shirts with cutouts and yoga pants with mesh pockets will all improve breathability and venting. Avoid cotton, which holds moisture, makes you feel hot and damp, and then leaves you prone to chafing or getting chilled when class winds down.
Flexibility
Bending, stretching, binding, lunging, reaching and rolling - yoga is all about fun movements—until you realize your clothes don’t let you move at all. Bummer! To avoid such circumstances, go for clothes that can keep up with these movements, which means they’ll probably be made with at least 15 per cent spandex.
Most yoga clothes are made with polyester-nylon-spandex blends, and for good reason - these fabrics offer the right balance of comfort, breathability and flexibility.
Yoga is a form of wellness practice that allows us to listen to our bodies, to feel true well from within and to embark on the journey of improving one’s well-being and wholeness. Therefore, we hope through this blog, you can find the information helpful for you in the journey of loving your body within your skin.
