Achieving wellness, wellness in womanhood
In the lovely spirit marked by Women’s Day, it is time for embrace self-love and the beloved female in our life.
Well-being at first glance is not only bounded by physical health but also by further dimensions that support overall well-being for a better quality of life.
The Six Dimensions
This concept promotes that well-being is formed by and achieved through balancing six interactive dimensions:
1. Physical
This dimension recognizes the need for regular physical activity.
Regular exercise and proper food are the keys to achieving optimal wellness. The physical benefits of looking good and feeling great most often result in psychological benefits of improved self-esteem, self-control, determination and a sense of direction.
2. Emotional
The emotional dimension values emotional awareness and acceptance.
The satisfaction boosted with enthusiasm and happiness about one’s self and their lives is a component of emotional well-being. Understanding your own emotions and being able to express them in healthy ways motivate you to thrive in everyday life.
3. Spiritual
The spiritual dimension acknowledges your desire for life's meaning and purpose.
Spiritual experiences can happen in a variety of settings, including but not limited to visiting spiritual places, taking a walk in the woods, meditating, or running. Spirituality is personal and is perceived differently due to our unique backgrounds. By embracing this dimension with acknowledgement of that uniqueness, we enable ourselves to maintain our sense of reality and priority in our lives.
4. Intellectual
The intellectual dimension recognizes one's creative stimulating mental activities.
Learning something new every day relating to your professional or personal interests keeps our minds stimulated and updates our perception of the world.
5. Occupational
The occupational dimension recognizes personal fulfillment and life improvement through work.
The profession of choice, job satisfaction, career goals, and personal performance also are key influences contributing to our occupational wellness.
6. Social
The social dimension encourages people to give back to their community and environment.
Social wellness is defined as the ability to relate to, interact with, and communicate effectively with others. Having people with whom to connect and share your world is an incredible gift you can give to yourself. People can sail through life's ups and downs with the help of support systems.
Embracing Wellness in Womanhood
Wellness is a non-exclusive term–it is for everyone. However, we would like to dedicate this section to our beloved women.
—As the World Health Organization reminds us, "The health, well-being and needs of half the world’s population cannot be treated as an afterthought."
The intersect between feminism and women’s health could be answered through the Six Dimensions concept: physical, emotional, spiritual, intellectual, occupational and social. By understanding the relationship with our brand of feminity, we articulate our needs and prioritize what is best for our well-being.
